FLORIDA "BIG 3" REQUIRED CLASSES
The State of Florida regulates Massage Therapy through the Department of Health. As a licensed massage therapist you are required to take continuing education classes to support your personal and professional development. There are six hours of mandatory classwork that all renewing LMTs must complete to obtain licensure renewal; they include:

Florida Laws and Rules Review (2 hours)
This required class offers a review of the workings of the Florida Board of Massage Therapy, any changes in the statutes or rules, and a well balanced evaluation of Chapter 480 and Rules Chapter 64B-7. The course text is complemented by a video section that allows you to watch the class and follow along with the notes.

Professional Ethics (2 hours)
This class is designed to allow the busy massage therapist to complete this course with a balance of reading materials, short articles, and a quiz. Professional ethical behavior is the backbone of a healthy profession; this course was created to help you review some unique ethical dilemmas and to offer your suggestions for ways of handling such a situation in your practice.

Prevention of Medical Errors (2 hours)
This important class focuses on the problem of medical mistakes in the field of massage therapy. We cover potential issues we could face as massage therapists including equipment failure, negligent treatment, and the improper use of lubricants, oils and stones. In addition, there are many times as a massage therapist that you are privy to a potential error with a client or family member. Knowing how to interface with other healthcare providers and being a medical advocate are highlighted in the learning module.
