Want to have fun while getting your CEU’s? Spend time with Pete Whitridge exploring the connective and deep tissue structures of the body that are at the core of most client pain.
Improving Therapy Outcomes - 18 Hours
This hands-on workshop will update you on current research evidence to inform and refine your therapeutic skills. The class will focus on research topics such as affective outcomes, inflammatory response, pain science, and trauma and resiliency. Proper use of thermal therapies, the reeducation of post-traumatic injury response in wound repair, and functional movement patterning will also be covered. Help your clients become self reliant by teaching them to fully engage their own self awareness and interoception. Strengthen your practice and deepen your massage skills with all client populations.
MYOFASCIAL COMPONENTS OF PAIN Workshops
There are six individual workshop modules in the Myofascial Pain Specialist training. Each workshop can be taken separately for continuing education hours or they can be combined to culminate in a Certificate of Completion as a Myofascial Pain Specialist. Each class consists of 18 hours of lecture and demonstration, practice, and personal feedback. Examination and mentoring are available separately.
This is a multi-disciplinary approach to chronic pain. We will use orthopedic assessments, passive and active fascial stretching, muscle energy techniques, hydrotherapies, and cross fiber friction to help identify and eliminate pain and dysfunction. You will have the opportunity to dialogue about your specific client needs and learn self-care strategies to help clients maintain pain free movement. We will review current findings from the Fascia Research Congress in the context of exploring the unique nature of the connective tissues.
These courses are designed to help you pinpoint problem areas quickly, devise strategies to eliminate pain, and work collaboratively with your client. Healing is a partnership between the client and the therapist; learn to help your clients help themselves. You will receive lots of bodywork, learn new ways to handle clients with chronic pain, and reconnect with fellow massage therapists. You will leave this class with new skills and confidence in helping clients be pain free!
These courses are approved for Florida and Georgia (provider #50-1587) as well as national NCBTMB (#149453-00 including NY) continuing education requirements.
Low Back and Leg Pain - 18 hours
This workshop focuses on the Foundation of the spine and ilium. We will treat the lumbar and sacral ligaments, hamstrings and flexors to support spinal stability. We will incorporate the use of lateral positioning to access the hip socket, QL, and lateral thigh and leg. Another focus of this class will be posture, balance, and longevity in our aging population. Many clients have knee and hip replacements so we will explore tissue repair and scar mobilization.
Neck and Shoulder Pain - 18 hours
This workshop explores the Responsibility Center, focusing on the scapulae, shoulder girdle, brachial plexus, cervical ligaments and mandible. We will incorporate the use of lateral positioning to access the levator scapulae, subscapularis, and the clavicular attachments. There will be opportunity to work with the TMJ. We will highlight posture, headaches and chronic neck pain.
Manual Therapies for Surgeries, Scars, and Burns - 18 hours
This workshop explores working with surgical scars, traumatic scarring, burns and chronic pain. Deepen your therapy skills by examining how manual therapies can positively affect scars from surgeries, trauma or burns and become an important adjunct for home care and tissue healing for your clients. The use of gentle manipulations, guided active movements, and hydrotherapies can help clients develop skills to adapt and cope with scarred and traumatized tissues. This class is designed to help you expand your knowledge about the effects of touch on the human body and explore the physical and emotional aspects of this very personal client issue.
Therapeutic Strategies for Effective Pain Relief - 18 hours
This workshop explores the physical and emotional aspects of chronic pain. It will include an interactive forum to dialogue about your own specific client needs and support you in designing options for clinical treatments. This class will expand your knowledge about current pain science findings and help you incorporate useful techniques and information into your practice.
Dynamics of the Breath - Releasing the Core of Pain - 18 hours
This workshop explores the Core of Pain, focusing on the abdominal muscles, diaphragm, thoracic spine, rib cage, and scalenes. We will also investigate pranayama (breath) and relaxation techniques. Deepen your clinical skills by examining how manual therapies can help clients with asthma, COPD and other breathing dysfunctions.
Therapeutic Strategies for the Extremities - 18 hours
This workshop explores the Tools, focusing on hands, wrists, elbows, feet, and ankles. An important emphasis will be on self-care for the therapist. We will investigate working with trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, and preventing injury to shoulder, elbow and wrist. Lower body emphasis will be on proper weight shift and ergonomics. This workshop will highlight helping you protect your own "tools" and avoid burnout in your practice as a massage therapist.
